'Bio Base North West Europe' based in Ghent wins RegioStars Award 2017
On October 10, the RegioStars Awards 2017 have been awarded in Brussels during the European Week of Regions and Cities. The project “Bio Base North West Europe”, coordinated by Bio Base Europe based in Ghent, is the winner in the category of smart specialization for sme innovation.
The partly Flemish initiative brings together experts in bio-innovation to accelerate the growth of the bio-based economy in Europe. The project is part of Interreg North West Europe and includes partners from regions in Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
The annual RegioStars Awards aim to draw attention to the most innovative and inspiring projects funded by the EU. The Awards show with concrete examples how cohesion policy can have a tangible impact on the lives of European citizens by stimulating economic growth and employment at regional level. In addition, the initiative encourages the exchange of good practices between stakeholders of the Cohesion Policy. The five award-winning projects received their awards from European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Creţu and Member of the European Parliament Lambert van Nistelrooij.
