Internships

The General Representation of the Government of Flanders in the UK offers internships to higher education students where the traineeship is a part of their degree.

Internships are available in the following areas:

Office Management
We are primarily accepting interns in the field of Office Management. The tasks of the intern will be diverse, ranging from bookkeeping to logistics management. The intern will undertake a variety of day-to-day administrative tasks to ensure that the rest of the staff has adequate support to work efficiently.
To be considered for this profile, applicants must:
Follow a bachelor programme, preferably in the field of office management. The intern should have experience and skills in the use of common software programs such as MS Word and PowerPoint.

Communication
We also welcome communication interns. They prepare communication materials, newsletters and publications. Furthermore the intern will edit or develop reports and press releases and update the social media on a regular basis with relevant material, highlighting key events and achievements.
To be considered for this profile, applicants must:
Follow a bachelor or master programme, preferably in the field of communications, public relations, languages, journalism or equivalent. Excellent written and spoken English is essential, as well as a critical eye for editing and proofreading. The intern should have experience in managing websites and in using social media tools in a professional context. Furthermore the intern should be open to help with other office tasks as well.

Politics and Public Diplomacy Intern
Depending on their interests and the priorities of the Representation, interns may research and analyse the UK and its policies in different areas. Interns will help with events, conduct in-depth analysis, and respond to public inquiries.
To be considered for this profile, applicants must:
Follow a master programme, preferably in political science, law, economy, history, languages or communications. They can only be accepted if they have a concrete proposal.

PLEASE NOTE: Internships at the Representation of the Government of Flanders in the UK are voluntary and create no contractual relationship with the Government of Flanders.  All interns are expected to follow the same full-time working hours as the staff. An internship should have a minimum length of 1 month.

Remuneration:
Travel costs by public transport will be covered.

Deadlines:
• Submit an application before 15 July for a traineeship between September-December
• Submit an application before 15 November for a traineeship between January-June

Candidates will be selected on the basis of a comparative examination of the applications received for the cycle in question.  Successful candidates will be notified approximately 2 months before the beginning of the cycle for which they have been accepted.
