The General Representation in London organised the annual “Flanders Remembers” concert, as a tribute to the soldiers that lost their lives in Flanders. This year the concert took place on the 7th of November with the Flemish St George Quintet and the British Band of the Coldstream Guards. The St George Quintet consists of strings and has a repertoire with pieces of British composers such as Kelly, Bliss, Vaughan Williams and Elgar that experienced the First World War. The Band of the Coldstream Guards – known for their typical red uniforms and bearskin hats – played i.a. the piece “In Flanders Fields” of the Flemish composer Roger Derongé. Representatives of several embassies and organisations attended the event, as well as some Members of Parliament, local elected officials and expatriates. The concert was followed by a Last Post and wreath laying ceremony by various guests at the Flanders Fields Memorial Garden.
