    Home improvement grant

Would you like to carry out improvement works to your home? Then maybe you qualify for the Flemish home improvement grant.

The aim of the Flemish home improvement grant is to provide financial help to anyone who wants to improve or extend their house because it no longer meets the standards.

    Conditions

You can apply for the home improvement grant as occupier or as lessor.

    The occupier is:

    • the person and, possibly, the person with whom he or she is cohabiting or to whom he or she is married
    • who occupies the house on the application date on the basis of a right in rem or of a rental agreement for minimum three years.

    The lessor is:

    • the person and, possibly, the person with whom he or she is cohabiting or to whom he or she is married
    • who is letting the house on the application date to a social letting agency for at least nine years.

Whether or not you will receive a home improvement grant, depends on

    • your income
    • your house
    • the invoices.

Within a period of ten years, you can apply for a home improvement or home adaptation grant for a maximum of three times. You must make sure that each new application pertains to another category of works.

    Procedure

You can only apply for the home improvement grant after completion of the works. Append all the invoices, as well as the tax notice of the personal income tax of the income year from three years ago, to your application.

You can apply for the home improvement grant in two ways:

    • by means of a paper application form
    • by means of a digital application form.

Both forms are available from the website wonenvlaanderen.be.

You can also apply for the paper application form

    • with Wonen-Vlaanderen (Housing Agency-Flanders)
    • or order it for free by telephone on the number 1700.

A decision will be taken within three months, provided the application is accurate and complete. The grant will be paid within three months after this decision.

    Amount

The grant will vary between 600 and 1,500 Euros and is fixed per building category. You can consult the proper amounts on the website wonenvlaanderen.be.
