INBO well represented at the 23rd ICAIS Conference (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada)
ICAIS 2024, the International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species, took place from 12 to 16 May 2024 in Halifax, Canada. This biennial conference is the most comprehensive international forum to address new and emerging issues related to aquatic invasive species in freshwater, marine and estuarine environments.
ICAIS provides an international platform for presenting research to promote global action to reduce the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species worldwide. Consequently, it serves as a catalyst for international collaboration on research and management projects.
INBO is a loyal partner of the ICAIS Conference. INBO staff serve on the International Scientific Committee and the Programme Committee.
Three INBO scientists were given the honour of presenting their research during an oral presentation. Hugo Verreycken gave an overview of ten years of monitoring Ponto-Caspian gobies in Flanders while Rhea Maesele explained research on the rapidly advancing North Asian weatherfish. Teun Everts won second prize in the 'Oral presentations by PhD students' category with his work on the management of the American bullfrog.
The next edition of the ICAIS Conference will take place in Belfast, Northern Ireland in August 2026.
