Indicator in the spotlight: “Area of play zones in Forests and Nature Reserves”
The indicator “Area of play zones in forests and nature reserves” shows the trend in the area of play zones in forests and nature reserves. Play zones are areas within forests (private and public) and nature reserves where people can play without prior permission.
In 2025, the total area of permanent play areas in forests and nature reserves will be 3,086 ha. This is 34 ha more than in 2024. In addition, there are summer play areas, covering 517 ha where play is permitted exclusively in July and August. Youth organizations in particular make use of these areas during their summer camps.
The province of Limburg has the largest area of permanent play zones (1,032 ha), while the province of East Flanders has the smallest (288 ha).
