Flemish toolset
Flanders supports projects at various stages of the development cycle, from scientific and technological research, through development, to industrialisation, using a portfolio of funding instruments and services.
Through NCP Flanders, we focus on providing maximum support to Flemish companies and research institutions in accessing European defence initiatives, such as the European Defence Fund, as well as federal initiatives under the Defence, Industry & Research Strategy (DIRS) and NATO initiatives (DIANA and NIF).
FWO
The FWO funds fundamental research (FO) and strategic basic research (SBO), offering researchers in Flanders the opportunity to generate knowledge through its extensive toolset. This knowledge base forms the foundation for all further innovative developments, including in the defence industry.
VLAIO
VLAIO supports the stages from concept development to testing, evaluation, validation, and verification through a range of instruments. Companies can make use of grants for feasibility studies to assess the technical and economic viability of a concept. For prototype development, there are support measures aimed at innovation projects. VLAIO also provides support for pilot projects and validation processes, allowing products or processes to be tested and verified under real-world conditions. This support helps companies control risks and achieve market-ready solutions more efficiently.
PMV
PMV has made its existing range of financing instruments (venture capital, loans, guarantees) available for the defence sector, allowing it to support companies from start-ups to mature businesses with their funding needs. Over the course of 2026, PMV intends to establish a defence fund to support joint investments by public and private partners in strategic defence-related Flemish businesses.
FIT
FIT assists Flemish companies in bringing their products and services to foreign markets, supports participation in international trade fairs, brokerage events, and matchmaking activities. FIT connects you with major players in the global defence sector. Through targeted support, FIT enhances the visibility of Flemish companies in Europe and beyond, increasing their opportunities for contracts and collaborations.
NCP Flanders
NCP Flanders supports stakeholders based in Flanders who wish to participate in EU programmes Horizon Europe, Digital Europe and the European Defence Fund, as well as other federal and international defence programmes.
NCP Flanders assists businesses (from start-ups and SMEs to large en terprises), research institutions, universities, colleges, Flemish government agencies, and non-profit organisations.
