On Friday 6 February, we launched the Flemish Innovation and Industry Strategy for Security and Defence (VISD) in Zaventem. With VISD, we are strategically strengthening what Flanders already excels at:

• leading research and innovation
• high-tech SMEs and start-ups
• strong research institutions and international ecosystems

We deliberately focus on areas where Flanders can make a difference such as: artificial intelligence, cyber security, space, maritime technology, aviation and autonomous systems.

A range of Flemish companies, from major players to SMEs and start-ups, shared their experiences and needs within the defence value chain. They provided concrete insights into Flemish technological and industrial capabilities, and where further strengthening is possible.

In addition, several organisations designated as ecosystem leaders within VISD shared more information about their role, plans, and future activities. They outlined their approach to connecting enterprises, knowledge institutions, and government to form a resilient defence ecosystem focused on Flanders’ strengths in maritime technology, space, aviation, autonomous systems, and cybersecurity.
