Cieltje Van Achter was born in Asse, raised in Halle, and now lives in Schaerbeek.

Between 1997 and 2002, she studied Law in Leuven and spent a year in Paris as part of an Erasmus exchange programme. She then completed her studies in Bologna and Washington, D.C., receiving a master’s degree in international politics.

After working successively in the legal profession and at the Flanders Department of Foreign Affairs, she realised she had a knack for politics. Cieltje Van Achter successfully ran as a candidate in the 2014 Brussels regional elections, standing in opposition to the successive Brussels Governments for the ten years that followed. Between 2017 and 2021, Cieltje combined this with the position of N-VA vice-chair.
