The schoolbonus is an annual additional payment for families who are entitled to a sociale toeslag in July. You can also receive a schoolbonus for children who are not yet at school, provided you are entitled to a sociale toeslag in July.
Amount
The amount of the schoolbonus depends on the age your child reaches that year.
Below you will find the amounts for the 2025–2026 school year.
Schoolbonus

Conditions
You will automatically receive the schoolbonus in August if your child is entitled to a sociale toeslag in July.
The sociale toeslag is an extra payment for families on lower incomes. Whether you are entitled to this allowance depends on your income and your family circumstances.

Payment
You don’t need to do anything to receive the schoolbonus.
Your payment provider will automatically check whether you are entitled to a sociale toeslag in July. If so, you will receive the schoolbonus in August, together with the Vlaams Groeipakket.

Difference between the schoolbonus and the schooltoeslag
The schoolbonus and the schooltoeslag are two different types of allowance.
Schoolbonus
The schoolbonus is an additional annual payment for families who are entitled to a sociale toeslag in July.
The schoolbonus:
- depends on your child’s age
- is paid automatically in August
- you do not need to apply for it yourself
Schooltoeslag
The schooltoeslag is intended for families on lower incomes with children of school age.
The schooltoeslag:
- depends on family income, family circumstances and the type of education
- is automatically assessed and paid
- is paid at a different time to the schoolbonus (between August and December).
