Diplomas that are automatically recognised
The level of some (foreign) diplomas is automatically recognised in Flanders. You do not need to apply for recognition of equivalence for these diplomas or certificates.
Recognition of a diploma or professional qualification for a regulated profession or protected title
If you want to practise a or work using a in Flanders with a foreign diploma or professional qualification, or if you want to work with a professional qualification, you will have to have that diploma recognised.

Where to apply for recognition of equivalence of your diploma for a regulated profession depends, among other things, on what kind of diploma you hold and whether you obtained it:
- within the /Switzerland
- or outside the European Economic Area (EEA)/Switzerland.
Diploma or professional qualification obtained within the EEA or Switzerland
Do you want to work in Dutch-speaking education in Flanders or Brussels? Or would you like to practice a regulated healthcare profession or another regulated profession (lawyer, architect, veterinarian, notary, etc.)?
Diploma or professional qualification obtained outside the EEA/Switzerland
Do you have a diploma or professional qualification from outside the EEA/Switzerland and want to pursue a regulated profession?
