Definitions

According to article 7 of European Directive 2018/2001/EC (Directive on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources), the gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources in each member state is calculated as the sum of:

- the gross final consumption of electricity from renewable sources

- the gross final consumption of energy from renewable sources for heating and cooling

- the final consumption of energy from renewable sources in transport.

From 2021, the 13% renewable energy share at the Belgian level is a minimum obligation from the European directive.
