Kinderopvangtoeslag (childcare allowance)
The kinderopvangtoeslag is an amount you receive for each day your child attends recognised childcare where the price does not depend on your income. The kinderopvangtoeslag is part of the Vlaams Groeipakket (Flemish Growth Package).
Amount
- For each full day of childcare (at least 5 hours), you receive a fixed amount.
- For a half day of childcare (at least 3 hours), you receive half that amount.
- If your child spends less than 3 hours in childcare, you do not receive a kinderopvangtoeslag.

3.78 euros per childcare day (paid monthly)
Conditions
You are entitled to the kinderopvangtoeslag if:
- your child attends childcare licensed by Opgroeien, in Flanders or Brussels
- the price of the childcare does not depend on your income
- your child meets the residence conditions (in Dutch)
- your child has not yet started nursery school
Do you need to apply?
Does your child already receive a Vlaams Groeipakket? You receive the kinderopvangtoeslag automatically. You do not need to submit an application.
Does your child not yet receive a Vlaams Groeipakket? You must submit an application to a Vlaams Groeipakket payment provider (in Dutch).
Payment
You receive the kinderopvangtoeslag monthly, around the 20th of the month following the month in which you were entitled to it. If the 20th falls on a weekend or public holiday, payment is made on the next working day.
Calculation of the number of childcare days
Your childcare provider reports your child’s attendance to Opgroeien each month via its own system or through the AARON online application (in Dutch). Opgroeien then sends this information to your payment provider.
