Flanders Trainee Programme application and procedure
How can you apply to the Flanders Trainee Programme? You will also be expected to do some things after that. And what if you want to extend your internship or end it early?
Before your internship
Check if you meet the conditions.
- Stap 1
Procedure
Apply for reimbursement for your internship using the online application form (in Dutch). To do so, you will need the following documents:
copy of your identity card
diploma obtained at a Flemish educational institution
letter of acceptance from the organisation, or another certificate proving that you have been accepted for the internship.
After you have submitted the application, your internship supervisor in the organisation must complete this template(Word file opens in new window) and submit it to stages.dkbuza@vlaanderen.be(opens in your email application).
Deadline
You can submit your grant application up to six months in advance until one day before the start of your internship.
You can also apply if your internship has already started. However, you will only be paid for the remaining period of your internship. The ‘remaining period’ starts from the first day after you submit the application. The remaining period must be at least two months.
As long as there is budget available - Stap 2
Once you have provided all the necessary documents and meet the requirements, you will receive approval of your grant application.
The average administrative turnaround time for a grant application is three weeks.
- Stap 3
The coordinator of the Flanders Trainee Programme will contact you for an intake interview.
During your internship
During the internship, you will stay in contact with the coordinator of the Flanders Trainee Programme to provide any visual material. You will also be involved in Flemish foreign policy thanks to Flanders’s diplomatic representatives abroad.
After your internship
After your internship, you need to take two more steps to get the second tranche of your grant amount.
- Stap 1
To receive the remaining balance of your grant, you must submit these forms at the latest two months after the end of the internship:
evaluation form(Word file opens in new window), which your internship supervisor must complete and submit via stages.dkbuza@vlaanderen.be(opens in your email application).
- Stap 2
After you have submitted the above documents, the coordinator of the Flanders Trainee Programme will contact you for a follow-up conversation.
Extend the internship
Want to extend your internship?
You can extend your internship up to a total duration of six months.
If your internship concerns a project funded by the Government of Flanders, you can extend your internship to a total duration of nine months.
In either case, follow the steps below.
Submit a new application via the online application form (in Dutch) and choose the ‘internship extension’ option.
Please have your internship supervisor complete this extension certificate(Word file opens in new window) and submit it to stages.dkbuza@vlaanderen.be(opens in your email application).
Terminating the internship early
You are obliged to inform us if you terminate your internship earlier than expected.
You may have to repay a portion of your grant. Whether you effectively have to repay a portion and the amount thereof will be determined based on the number of days you effectively worked during your internship.
