Work permits for foreign workers

If you would like to recruit a foreign worker as a salaried employee, you must first apply for the appropriate work permits.

You are exempt from this obligation for certain categories of foreign nationals. For example, if you are looking to employ a national from an EU member state, Iceland, Norway, Lichtenstein or Switzerland, permits are not required. They are legally allowed to perform any job with any employer in Flanders.

  • Who needs a work permit?
  • Categories and procedures

  • Application forms
  • Appealing a refusal or revocation

The Economic Migration Department is presently experiencing a major influx of applications. As a result, processing currently takes ten weeks.

Please take this timing into consideration when submitting your application.
