Forest Genetic Resources
Forest Genetic Resources
The Forest Genetic Resources team conducts applied scientific research to support Flemish policy on the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of genetic resources within forest ecosystems. We do this by developing gene banks, living collections and forest reproductive material from trees and shrubs.
Scientific research is also carried out into the use of fast-growing tree species. Their multifunctionality offers opportunities in various landscapes and land-use types to contribute to sustainable land use, ecosystem restoration and biodiversity.
The team facilitates regular consultation with forest users (forest owners, tree nursery operators, forest managers, forest operators, etc.) and encourages collaboration and knowledge exchange within Flemish forest research.
