Resilient or Vulnerable? Nature and Forests in Times of Climate Change

Over the past ten years, it has become clear that rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, longer periods of drought and more severe storms are having an increasingly significant impact on our natural environment. The report “Habitats and species in a changing climate” examines the consequences of climate change for Flemish nature and forests in the period 2015–2025.

We show how different habitats respond to these changes. We also look at vulnerable species groups such as butterflies, wild bees, dragonflies and amphibians. We describe the expected effects on, among other things, phenology, distribution and ecosystem dynamics.

In addition to the risks, we also discuss the opportunities: what climate adaptation measures can make nature and forests more resilient?

This report brings together the latest scientific insights and translates them into useful knowledge for everyone involved in the management and future of Flemish nature.
