Biodiv-Corona - Bat Diversity and Coronaviruses

Bats (Rollin Verlinde - Vildaphoto)
Bats (Rollin Verlinde - Vildaphoto)

Details

The transfer of disease from animal to human is a cause for concern. Changes in biological diversity and habitats are cited as the cause. Understanding the relationships between biodiversity and zoonotic infectious diseases in a changing climate is a problem that needs to be addressed to support policymaking and response. Coronaviruses with a strong adaptive capacity could play an important role in the future. INBO will help map the diversity of Coronaviruses, and examine how bat diversity and life histories determine distribution and infection risks. Potential zoonoses are an important part of the interactions between nature and man.
