Data and code for: Rooftop breeding does not consistently explain variation in yolk testosterone in Herring Gulls

Details

This dataset and accompanying R code support the manuscript "Rooftop breeding does not consistently explain variation in yolk testosterone in Herring gulls", accepted for publication in Ecology & Evolution (doi: 10.1002/ece3.74269). This study investigates variation in maternal hormone allocation between rooftop-breeding and ground-breeding Herring gulls (Larus argentatus). Specifically, it focuses on yolk testosterone concentrations in the last-laid egg and their relationship with breeding context, social environment and maternal quality. Data were collected during the 2023 and 2024 breeding seasons in Zeebrugge (ground-nesting colony) and Ostend (rooftop nesting sites) in Belgium.
