Details

This project extends ongoing INBO research in the Kalmthoutse Heide to two additional heathland areas in the Netherlands and Spain, to investigate how biodiversity, microclimate and nature management are interrelated under different climatic conditions and at different latitudes. Specifically, the project investigates how microclimates in young, open heathland versus old, closed heathland influence the presence and activity of soil-dwelling invertebrates, such as ground beetles. We are doing this using microclimate loggers and soil traps at sites in the three countries. INBO is the project leader and is responsible for the research design, data processing and scientific output, in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and the University of A Coruña (UDC), within the framework of the Alternet Collaborative Projects (ACP) call for proposals.
