Details

This project consists of two parts: 1. When trees are scheduled for felling, bats and their roosting sites are taken into account, as they are protected under the Flemish Species Decree. Due to a lack of insight into which trees are suitable as bat roosts, screenings are often time-consuming and complicate the planning of works. INBO will therefore develop a decision-making tool and formulate practical recommendations for felling works. We will take into account tree characteristics, species and landscape context. 2. Night-time lighting has a strong negative impact on bats, especially along watercourses. However, little is known about how alternative lighting can reduce this impact. We will compare different types of lighting at 50 locations and analyse the effects on bat activity and behaviour.
