This report summarises the knowledge about the management of the Neigembos (East Flanders), mainly during the 18th and 19th centuries, gathered from historical archives of the former owners of the forest, the Baron of Wedergrate and his descendants.
The Neigembos reserve is one of the forests in Flanders that was taken out of management in the 1990s as an “integral forest reserve”. Changes in land use, management regimes and management interventions in the past have strongly influenced current developments. In the context of the scientific analysis of spontaneous developments, it is therefore essential to have a good understanding of the historical management of this forest.
