The integration of short rotation coppice in Belgian agricultural landscapes. Guidelines and strategies for managing short rotation coppice cultures

Short rotation coppice (SRC) is an agricultural practice involving the periodic harvesting of the above-ground biomass of fast-growing tree species, such as poplar or willow, every two to eight years. SRC holds significant potential to enhance the multifunctionality of agricultural landscapes in Belgium, balancing woody biomass production with ecological and agricultural resilience. This potential is maximised when the relational and intrinsic values of nature are considered alongside instrumental values, fostering choices that benefit both nature and agriculture.
