Sanne is a biologist who studied at the University of Antwerp, where she obtained a master's degree in Biology, specialising in evolution and behaviour. She started her career at the Research Institute for Nature and Forestry (INBO) as a researcher in the field of wildlife management. In that role, she worked on literature studies and stakeholder surveys on hamster protection measures in the Netherlands. She was also involved in international collaborative projects on the management of invasive alien species, such as Vespa-Watch and MICA, where she contributed to knowledge building and support for policy and management practices. She then continued her role as a researcher at the intersection of nature and society. She works on themes such as nature-inclusive agriculture, participatory biodiversity monitoring with farmers and the development of assessment frameworks for damage to nature, in collaboration with policy and enforcement agencies.
In her current research, Sanne is involved in several international and transdisciplinary projects. Within TSI Flyway2, she contributes to an international partnership focused on the protection of coastal wetlands and migratory birds along the East Atlantic Flyway. Sanne is also involved in BiodiverCities, a project that focuses on developing practical and applicable guidelines for urban services to better manage new urban biodiversity.
