I do research on nature-society interactions and the governance thereoff by government and other stakeholders. I am especially interested in the co-evolution of land use and ecosystems, institutions, knowledge and value systems. I evaluate policy programmes and analyse approaches like nature based solutions and natural capital accounting. This research is mostly conducted for the Nature Report that INBO presents on a biennial basis to the Flemish minister for Nature and Environment.

During the 1990's I did research at the Public Management Institute (Leuven University) on the implementation of performance management in Flemish government agencies. In addition I provided on a regular basis training for civil servants. My doctoral dissertation discussed factors of failure and succes for the adoption of reforms like performance budgeting and cost accounting. Before this I studied business administration (Leuven University) and fiscal sciences (Fiscale Hogeschool Brussel).
