Details

Bats use attics of churches and other buildings, often as a maternity colony. Knowledge of this is important not only for inventory and monitoring of the species, but also for interventions such as restoration or repurposing of buildings. However, bats in attics are not always easy to inventory, but via DNA from droppings it can be easier. The Species Protection Programme for bats included two actions around attics. These actions have been partially implemented. This project will further investigate attics in East and West Flanders and collect samples. Here, we focus on areas where there is little or no knowledge about the occurrence of bats.
