Details

Fens (areas with surface peat soils) are crucial for biodiversity, protection against water scarcity and flooding, climate mitigation (carbon storage) and climate adaptation.

The aim of this assignment is to collect, in a structured and standardised manner, information on
(i) peat quality and
(ii) restoration potentials for the main peat areas in Flanders.

This information should serve for the scientific underpinning of a policy specifically aimed at protecting and restoring (the most important) superficial peat areas in Flanders.
