Details

INBO received a request from ANB for a recommendation on the possibilities for lowland peatland restoration in the Calievallei & Tielenkamp area. It is an area with great potential (even otters have recently been spotted here), where peatland restoration is realistic and where INBO conducts a considerable amount of research (e.g. groundwater, forest ecology).
The request was to develop an ecohydrological restoration scenario. In our advice, we indicate that good quality groundwater and surface water is essential for peat restoration. Additional research is needed to better substantiate the ongoing (peat) restoration programmes scientifically.
The project focuses primarily on data collection and analysis, with the aim of forming a substantiated expert opinion on the feasibility of water-related target vegetation in the study area.
