Details
The Natura 2000 habitat map is the most important source for estimating and monitoring the surface area and range of the various habitat types. The mapping is complete within the Natura 2000 areas, but is very outdated outside these areas. The map includes habitats of European importance, biotopes of regional importance (RBB) and other biotopes. This project extends the monitoring to the entire territory for habitats of European importance and RBBs and to all biotopes in the Flemish ecological network. The RBBs form the habitat of various habitat directive species and birds. We also carry out an area-wide assessment of all very important quality indicators (“LSVI light”) for habitats of European importance and regionally important biotopes (RBB). Finally, we also monitor the quality (LSVI) and quantity of all European protected standing and flowing waters.
