This project aims to better identify links between biodiversity and human health. Here, perception will be central. Indeed, several studies show that ‘perceived biodiversity’ may have stronger correlations with well-being than ‘actual biodiversity’. In this cooperation agreement with ANB, we will investigate how ordinary citizens conceptualise biodiversity, how they perceive the quality of the natural environment in terms of biodiversity, and whether and how they believe perceived biodiversity affects their (mental) health. We investigate these questions using ‘photovoicing’, a form of community-based participatory research, at two locations in Flanders. With this project, we want to contribute to broader public support for nature (conservation) and to cross-sectoral policy and research integration in the field of biodiversity conservation and public health.Status | Running |
