Trees planted today will experience climate change firsthand. Given the importance of appropriate planting stock for afforestation, forest conversion and forest regeneration, an extensive list of approved provenances is extremely important. Taking into account adaptation to climate change, the current list of recommended provenances shows several gaps. The fastest way to expand the list in order to increase the genetic diversity in the material's seed stocks is through recognition of additional in situ seed stocks. Also seed orchards are further added to the lists.
