Monitoring estuariene inrichting van de site aan het Fort Sint-Filips - Tussentijds factual data rapport. Toestand 2022

This is the second data report of our monitoring of the Fort Sint-Filips site after completion of the facility (July 2021). In this report, we show data series from before the start (T0 = 2019) to the second year after completion of the set-up in 2022. For the first time, we report here data on waterbirds, vegetation and sediment characteristics. In addition, we show evolutions in geomorphology, macrobenthos and the hyperbenthos.

For the macrobenthos and for waterbirds, positive trends emerge after establishment. Sediment composition, which was still quite unnatural in 2021, also changed predominantly to that of a natural, functional mudflat. Vegetation development is still very young with early pioneer phases with aquatic algae and the expansion of reeds, presumably from some relics.
