Populatieonderzoek en beheervisie voor de vuursalamander in Vlaanderen
Policy support research around Flemish fire salamander populations is needed. We provide a plan of action, and discuss the distribution and ecology of the species.
We investigate which habitat features are associated with high densities of salamanders. We look at genetics and conduct capture-recapture studies. We examine individual growth within one population. We apply the available knowledge to prepare a management guideline with general guidelines, site-specific information and possibilities of translocation, distinguishing between ex situ and in situ possibilities.
