Details

INBO works on the scientific basis for Flemish biodiversity policy, using VITO's Spatial Model and environmental input-output model. These models map the impact of spatial developments, land use and economic activities on biodiversity and ecosystem services. It is necessary to regularly update land use data, for which remote sensing is an efficient tool. This makes it easier to detect and monitor changes in habitats. The aim is to monitor biodiversity indicators on a large scale and in a repeatable manner.
Work is also being done on linking environmental pressure and biodiversity impact, including at international level, in order to better substantiate policy.
