title = "Ontpoldering van Lillo's potpolder. Vergelijking van twee inrichtingsvarianten",
abstract = "In order to restore the Zeeschelde ecosystem, 2,000 hectares of new estuarine nature will be developed in the updated Sigma Plan. Within this framework, the Potpolder of Lillo was depoldered in September 2012. The area was divided into two compartments with a peninsula in between. In the eastern compartment, a dyke relic with a breach was retained. In the western, downstream compartment, the dyke was completely excavated down to the high mud level. The estuarine habitat development processes are progressing more rapidly in the western compartment. The case emphasises that depoldering is a valuable method for restoring estuarine nature.
